It’s Summer: Keep Your Climate Control Running Smoothly

It’s been a hotter summer than most of us expected: tropical heat and humidity have blanketed much of the country. And since many of us spend a lot of time in our car, this means cranking up the air conditioning.

AC is a Complex System

When you turn on your vehicle’s air conditioning, you expect it to work, and work quickly. A car’s climate control system is complex, however. The air conditioning system operates in a continuous cycle, sending refrigerant through a sealed system to remove hot air from the cabin compartment. As the refrigerant flows through the air conditioning system, it is turned from a hot gas into a liquid, which is then cooled, turned into a gas again, and vaporized to absorb heat from the cabin. At the end of the cycle, the cool air is blown into the cabin.

There are many moving parts with this system, however, and a fault in any one of them could leave your AC running improperly, which can cost you money and lead to unnecessary discomfort. To keep it running properly, climate control needs routine maintenance for increased seasonal performance and operation. It’s not only about your comfort, but also the health of your vehicle: the climate control system is able to affect and regulate the internal temperature of a vehicle through a cycle of processes. In severe weather conditions, maintaining the proper internal climate can actually factor into automotive safety.

When we service your vehicle’s climate control systems at Tire Country Auto Repair in Enfield, Connecticut, we’ll do several necessary tasks:

Air conditioning system diagnostic services. During an AC diagnostic, we will inspect the belts for cracks, the compressor for leaks, the electrical components for connectivity, and the entire system for low pressure. Our service staff may also evacuate and recharge your system with refrigerant according to your vehicle manufacturer’s specifications. During an air conditioning system diagnostic, we’ll use professional leak detection tools to locate any problems in your system.

Air conditioning system service. If your vehicle’s climate control does have problems, we’ll repair and replace anything that’s not working correctly. This might mean correcting low refrigerant due to a leak, repairing inoperative fans or blowers, or clearing clogged compressors, evaporators, condensers, or expansion valves. Fixing small problems now can eliminate the need to fix large problems later when the system stops working altogether.
