Getting pulled over is never fun. Even if you’re sure you haven’t made any wrong moves while on the road and that you’re in perfect condition to be driving, you could still end up with a ticket by the time you’re done talking with the officer. 

Believe it or not, failing to address certain vehicle repair schedules is a leading culprit to many people who are ticketed on the roadway. 

If you’ve been putting off your routine vehicle maintenance steps to try and save some extra cash or because you simply don’t have the time to schedule an appointment, you could end up paying much more in fines - not to mention drive around with a heightened risk for an accident. 

So what kind of repairs can lead you to hot water?

Proper functioning equipment is at the top of this list. Things like headlights that actually work and turn on and are a color approved by the DOT as well as turn signals, and more. Always have those checked. 

There’s also the obvious need to have good working brakes on the car so you can stop in time and avoid a collision. If you’re involved in a crash due to poor brakes they could potentially put you at fault - so better safe than sorry. 

You should also be sure your windshield is not cracked and hazardous, tinted so dark you can’t be seen, and that your safety belts are in working order and always in use.

Depending on which state you live in, it could even be part of your local laws that your tail lights light up red and that if they are cracked and showing the white light behind the plastic reflector instead - there is reason to be ticketed. 

Loud exhaust due to a muffler issue or crack? Don’t wait to have it repaired. You may not notice while you’re driving just how loud and noise polluting your car is while you drive but in some states-  it’s also grounds for a fine.

The moral of the story is - stay safe and be smart on the road. You depend on your car to get to work and around different locations. You want it to last forever and be dependable - spending some money to keep it running and in tip-top shape is well worth it in the long run.
