Five Signs It's Time For New Tires

Five Signs It's Time For New Tires

Have you ever been driving your car and noticed a strange vibration? Or maybe you've gone through a puddle of water and watched as the tires splashed up onto your windshield? The problem might not be that serious, but it's still something that can affect your safety on the road.

It may be time for new tires! A lot of people don't realize this until it's too late, but when a tire starts giving off warning signs, it's time for an upgrade. If you want to keep yourself safe and avoid accidents, then read on for some common signs that indicate when it might be time to invest in new rubbers.

  1. Vibration while driving.

If your car vibrates while you're driving, it could be a sign of a tire problem. Vibrations can be caused by a variety of factors, including:

  • Tire wear and pressure changes cause vibrations to occur in the steering wheel. If this happens, check your tires for excessive wear or underinflated tires. If they are worn out or underinflated, replace them with new ones.

  • The suspension system. Suspension systems do not affect ride quality as much as other parts of the vehicle and won't generally need replacing unless there is an issue with them (i.e., broken components). However, if you feel vibrations in other areas such as the floorboard or seat cushion when braking or accelerating rapidly (which would indicate worn bushings), then it may be time to take care of those problems before serious damage occurs throughout the rest of the vehicle's structure!

  1. The tread is worn unevenly.

One of the most obvious signs that your tires need to be replaced is uneven tread wear. If you notice that some parts of your tire have worn down significantly more than others, it’s time to replace them. This can happen when the tires are old and/or not in good shape, or if you drive over uneven surfaces like potholes or manhole covers.

  1. Dry rot.

Dry rot is a dangerous condition that can cause your tires to fail suddenly and without warning. It can be caused by water damage or poor maintenance, but it's not always easy to spot. Dry rot is usually found on the sidewall of a tire. If you see any cracks, bubbles, or blisters, stop using your tire immediately and replace it with a new one.

If you're unsure whether or not dry rot has affected your tires, look for these signs:

  1. You're getting flats regularly.

A flat tire happens to the best of us. Even if you’re a pro at pumping up your tires and checking their pressure, it’s still possible for them to go flat. Flats often occur in winter when the cold weather causes the rubber to seal itself around nails or other sharp objects on the road. You might also get a puncture from debris at the bottom of your tire that wasn't visible until you drove over it.

When this happens, don't panic! As soon as you spot your flat—and before changing it—check for any damage on either side of where the tire was punctured (on both sides). If one or two sides are damaged but not both, then those wheels may need replacing sooner rather than later because they've been compromised beyond repair by whatever caused that hole in our example above.

  1. You're not aligned properly.

Many drivers are unaware that they are experiencing abnormal tire issues until it's too late. If your car is pulling to one side or the other, this can be a sign that your tires aren't aligned properly. Alignment is important for safety and fuel efficiency so it's best to take care of the problem before it gets worse.

To check alignment yourself:

  • Make sure to drive straight down the road at 20 miles per hour with no other cars around (so no distractions).

  • Turn on your emergency flashers and slow down to 10 miles per hour. From this position, check for any diagonal movement of lights on each side of your vehicle; if there is any visible movement then you need new tires immediately!

Be sure to heed these signs and change your tires as needed.

Now that you know what signs indicate it’s time for new tires, keep an eye out for them. If you see any of these signs, be sure to heed them and change your tires out as needed so that you can stay safe on the road.

If you’re getting tired of hearing your tires squeal at every stop sign and having them wear out faster than they should, it may be time to invest in new ones. Not only will you save money on gas and have better control over your vehicle when driving with new tires, but it could also help prevent accidents from happening on the road.
